OUR HISTORY

Committed to ensuring the longevity of Simmers Contracts

Where it All Began...

Simmers Contracts Ltd began life as W R Simmers when our founder, William Robert Simmers served his time with William Simpson at the ‘Smiddy’, Mid Street, Keith as a blacksmith. Willie established W R Simmers and along with his wife rapidly built up a reputable name for providing quality and service in the fabrication and erection of structural steel buildings, supplying both the industrial and farming sectors. In 1972, Willie expanded the business and incorporated servicing the local whisky industry. The continued, longevity of business relationships within this sector is a great source of pride for the business to this day.

Old Traditions Meet New Innovations

Willie had a great love of farming that stemmed from his time as a ‘loon’ working on a farm at Backmuir on the outskirts of Keith. In 1982 Willie and two of his sons bought that farm and set about establishing a thriving farming enterprise.

In his time Willie was at the forefront of innovative structural steel building design and was twice awarded North of Scotland Farm Buildings Award. He was also recognized for his agricultural innovations. Two of Willie’s sons, Symon and Philip, are today’s company directors. Symon time served as a joiner before returning to his dad’s shop floor in 1987, becoming the managing director of the steel business in 1989. Under Symon’s direction, the engineering company expanded and relocated from the Keith site to their current premises at Backmuir in 1994. Philip manages the brothers’ farming enterprise.

Whilst the W R Simmers ‘Smiddy’ is consigned to the company’s history, the quality and expertise that Willie built his business around is at the centre of what Simmers Contracts Ltd offer their clients today.

Simmers Contracts Ltd is committed in ensuring the longevity of the company for the next 60 years and beyond as it continues to grow from strength to strength.
